SMFS At Kalamazoo! Below please find important information on SMFS events and activities at the International Medieval Congress, May 13-17, 2015

ANNUAL SMFS KALAMAZOO MENTORING EXCHANGE (DEADLINE: April 15)

Graduate students, independent scholars, junior and senior faculty members – anyone at any stage in his/her career is welcome to participate as either mentors or mentees (or both).

Please send the following information by April 15 to Katie Keene at kukeene@yahoo.com:

specific as possible, so that we may make the best possible matches.  Please choose

one or more of the following suggested considerations and list in order of priority from most

to least important:

a)  To meet or mentor someone in your own, specific field (or a secondary field of

interest)

b)  To talk to someone about being a feminist scholar more generally

c)  To discuss strategies/experiences navigating a job search

d)  To discuss administration (chairing departments, running gender/women’s studies

programs)

e)  To meet someone in a different field or to develop interdisciplinary relationships

f)  To meet another independent scholar

g)  To meet another junior professor about being new to that position

h)  Other

Requirement: attendance at the International Congress on Medieval Studies, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI, May 14-17, 2015. You will receive notice regarding your match on or before May 1 so that you will have time to coordinate a meeting. The aim of the mentoring exchange is to bring people together at Kalamazoo. Relationships can continue after the Kalamazoo congress, but we stress that the congress itself is intended to be the main venue of the exchange.

LUNCHEON in honor of Dr. Carr: Thursday, May 14 from 11:30-1:30 pm at The Oaklands, the bed and breakfast located on the WMU campus across from the Bernhard Center.  The entree choices are champagne chicken, vegetarian lasagna, and stuffed peppers (gluten free); all will be served with salad, beverage, and dessert. Price, including tax and gratuity, is $30 regular, $15 for graduate students and underemployed scholars.
