Chelsea Silva wins 2019 Foremothers Fellowship

SMFS is pleased to announce that the winner of our 2018 Foremothers Fellowship is Chelsea Silva, a PhD candidate in English at the University of California, Riverside. Her project, Bedwritten: Middle English Medicine and the Ailing Author, explores the intersection of healthcare, impairment, and literature in late medieval England. With support from the Foremothers Fellowship, she will conduct archival research in London in order to continue developing the Middle English Remedies database, an open-access database of previously-unpublished medical recipes. She will also produce a full transcription of British Library MS Harley 2389, a sixteenth-century commonplace manuscript that includes a number of cosmetic, obstetric, and domestic recipes.
